The 2023 NGAA Symposium will be held online on Wednesday 11 and Wednesday 18 October 2023, from 1.00-4.00pm AEDT.
About Symposium
The NGAA Symposium showcases innovative research and practice being delivered in growth councils across Australia. It provides an opportunity for our members to present work they are proud of, and to position growth councils at the leading edge of contemporary local government programs and practice.
Symposium also provides a platform for the exploration of recent research on key issues facing NGAA members.
Who attends Symposium?
Symposium is geared towards officers and managers in NGAA member councils, government officials, academics and peak bodies. Sharing knowledge and expertise opens the door to collaboration and capacity building, which is a key tenet of NGAA.
In 2022, over 200 people registered to attend the two online sessions, representing 16 LGAs, peak bodies and government agencies including ALGA, Infrastructure Australia, NBN Co, UDIA, Infrastructure Victoria, and academics from five universities.
Submissions now open
This year we are inviting submissions from all NGAA Member councils and their research partners on the following themes:
Housing
- Supply, demand, and monitoring progress
- Diversity of housing types
- Affordable housing
- Key worker housing
- Vacant home and short stay accommodation
- Implementing the National Housing Accord
- Partnerships for social housing
- How planning can facilitate desired housing outcomes
Climate change and economic resilience
- Pathway to net zero emissions
- Support for biodiversity for human health
- Examples of climate-adapted housing and suburbs
- Examples of policies or projects supporting economic resilience
There will also be an open category, for submissions that may not link to our two themes, but which are important to explore and share.
