Are growth areas prepared for emergencies?

The National Growth Areas Alliance, in partnership with the Australian Red Cross, will discuss community preparedness for emergencies in outer metropolitan areas during Emergency Ready Week 2023.

Building community resilience is a vital part of local government’s work, and growth area Councils, in particular, have responded to this growing responsibility through their experiences of floods, bushfires, storms – and a pandemic.

Communities within NGAA Member councils are increasingly impacted by emergencies and natural disasters. Often they are new communities of residents who have moved to a natural disaster-prone area for the first time.

The Australian Red Cross leads community resilience building projects across Australia, and during Emergency Preparedness Week 2023 will share their expertise with NGAA Member’s Mayors, Councillors and officers.
