Green Streets

City of Casey

The City of Casey’s Green Streets design program integrates urban forest, integrated water, climate change, and community health principles into urban planning. Traditionally, landscaping has been an afterthought, but this program aims to change that by coordinating these functions for better resident outcomes. The project involves developing innovative techniques for road cross-sections to enhance canopy cover, reduce the urban heat island effect and flooding, improve amenity, minimize greenhouse gas emissions, and promote socialisation, walking, and cycling. Collaborating with developers, trials are underway, aiming to embed these principles into standard designs for economic and community benefit.
